Lichtbasis GmbH, founded in 2000, is one of the leading European lighting wholesalers. The company distributes high-quality light sources and luminaires for professional applications, such as retail stores and the catering industry. A broad, diversified customer base benefits from the company’s comprehensive knowledge of lighting technology, its high supply capability and its lighting design services. The company expects sales of around €65 million in 2014.
The maconda team supported the Frankfurt-based Finatem Beteiligungsgesellschaft with a commercial due diligence. In addition to analyzing the product range, customer and supplier structure, a key objective was to determine the current drivers of the complex and very dynamic lighting market and to assess its further development. This is decisively driven by LED technology, which is continuing to grow at the expense of conventional lighting technology and is expected to bring about a number of market changes at all stages of the value chain. These include increased energy efficiency and lighting quality as well as new possibilities for lighting design. Increased service life, short development cycles, a trend toward falling prices coupled with improved performance, and rising complexity are presenting all market players with new challenges. In particular, product and planning competence for light as well as a high level of consulting expertise are becoming important competitive advantages.
In order to better understand the high market dynamics and the relevance of various LED trends, we held targeted discussions with selected experts and market participants from our established network.
